Levern Spencer To Lead Saint Lucia’s Charge At Pan Am Games

Saint Lucia’s most decorated athlete and multiple Sportswoman for the Year, Levern Spencer who is also the defending Pan American champion in the Ladies High Jump, will lead Saint Lucia’s charge at the Pan American Games in Peru from Friday 26th July to Sunday 11th August 2019. 

Under the Saint Lucia Olympic Inc (SLOC) banner, a seven member team will represent Saint Lucia.

The full squad reads: Levern Spencer, Jeanelle Scheper (High Jump), Sandisha Antoine (Triple Jump), Albert Reynolds (Javelin). The four athletes will be accompanied by Henry Bailey – Coach.

Stephanie Lovell and Luc Chevrier will represent the sport of Sailing; the two young sailors have been outstanding in qualifying and according to SLOC General Secretary, Alfred Emmanuel they are very much familiar with the waters they will be competing in. While in Peru Stephanie and Luc will be under the guidance of Coach – Robert Hemming.

Swimming will be represented by Jean Luc Zephir accompanied by Coach – Peter James (Lightning Aquatic Swim Club).

President of the Saint Lucia Boxing Association, David Christopher will lead the delegation to the Games as Chef de Mission; while in Peru Christopher will have as his assistant Velica Augustin of the Saint Lucia Basketball Association.

Speaking at a press briefing last week, SLOC President, Fortuna Belrose said, six of the participants have benefited from the Olympic Solidarity Fund in their preparation, and in terms of representation they depict the best crop of athletes currently going out to represent Saint Lucia.

Belrose said, “The SLOC is very confident that they will all perform well and will return home proudly”.

Also heading to Peru to cover the event are journalists Dave Pascal from the Star Newspaper and Freelancer – Marius Modeste (HTS).

This is the seventh time Saint Lucia will be participating in the Pan Am Games dating back from 1995 and to date have picked up medals by Dominic Johnson in the Pole Vault and Levern Spencer in the High Jump.
