THE DJ Dongar Mackeson Invitational Cup sponsored by Peter and Company Distribution (PCD) agents for Mackeson continued on Saturday 16th February with a double header at the La Ressource Playing Field. It was mixed fortunes at the final whistle as there was a 5-0 drubbing by Chesters, while Survivals and El Ninos played to a 1-1 draw.
In the first encounter, Chesters out of Mabouya Valley took on Praslin Bay FC from Mon Repos in their first home and away match. The Valley boys left no stone unturned from the get go with a dominating display to win 5 – 0.
The goal scorers were Layneus Sonson (hattrick) and one each from Sherwin Simon and Marlon Gilbert.
In the second encounter Survivals, also from the Mabouya Valley, took on El Ninos FC from the Desruisseaux Football League. El Ninos took the early lead with a goal by Jessaniel Flavius in the 22nd minute as the half ended 1 – 0.
On the resumption, both teams up the tempo increased and on the pitch the pendulum swung from one side to the other, but it would be Survivals who would live up to their name in the dying moments when they managed to get a well-deserved equalizer in the 85th minute and that’s how the scoreline remained up until the final whistle of regulation time.
The four teams will be in action this weekend for the return leg scheduled for Saturday 2nd March 2019 at the La Ressource playing field; match time 6.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. respectively.
