St. Lucia Third In Regional U-16 Netball

ST. LUCIA defeated a struggling Trinidad and Tobago 31 – 18 on the final night of competition in the Jean Pierre Caribbean Youth Under – 16 Netball tournament in Barbados to tie for third place on points with the Commonwealth of Dominica which had a better goal average.

For the home team Megan Nestor continued her good run of form in the tournament scoring 28 from 34 attempts.

For Trinidad and Tobago Abigail Boswell netted 6 from 16, Kadeemah Herbert scored 12 from 18.

Meanwhile, in the long anticipated clash of the two unbeaten teams Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls trounced hosts Barbados to clinch championship for a record 11th time.

Their 35 – 21 win was propelled by goal shoot Lori Daley who scored 24 goals from 32 attempts while Zandra Cohen provided support with 11 from 12 attempts.

For Barbados, goal attack Brianna Holder scored 11 from 19 attempts, and the usually prolific Tower Lorde was a perfect eight from eight.

The Jamaicans ended on 35 points, four clear of the second placed Barbados, while St. Lucia and Dominica both had 22 points.

Grenada and Bermuda were fifth and sixth, respectively, after finishing on 17 points each, with Trinidad and Tobago second from last on eight points. Antigua and Barbuda finished without a win or a point.

JannellMathurin was St.Lucia M.V. P of the tournament, while Captain JermiahEvariste and Meggan Nestor made the cut in the top sixteen players of the tournament.
