De Soca Lypso Song Contest On October 31

DE Soca-Lypso Revue is preparing to host its 4th Annual AnnouManjé, Dansé, Chanté en Kwéyòlevent.

This year the event has been placed on the official calendar of events in observance of Kwéyòl Heritage Month and will take place on Saturday October 31, at the National Cultural Centre.

This year, the event will remain a song competition, featuring various genres of music with the eventual winner going home with a cash prize of EC$5,000.00. The first runner up will receive EC$3,000, and the second runner-up EC$2,000

In addition to the performing winner walking away with the top prizes, a special award will be given to the best written piece.

In preparation for the Kwéyòl Song Competition, De Revue wll be hosting its’ second ‘Kwéyòl Songwriters Workshop’ on Saturday September 19, at the National Cultural Centre from 12 midday to 3:00 p.m. This three hour session is aimed at bringing together writers wishing to submit material for judging, giving them an opportunity for deliberation and enhancing their craft.

De Revue has invited Mrs. Lindy-Ann Alexander, a lecturer at Sir. Arthur Lewis Community Colledge, and Dr. KentryJn Pierre, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Creative Industries, as resource persons to assist in the writing of Creole, which is important for submission of the written pieces for judging. Writers will also be privy to the draft judging criteria for their input.

De Soca-LypsoRevue,is asking all artistes and songwriters interested in participating in this year’s Kwéyòl Song Competition to register early…. The deadline for registration is Wednesday September 30. Registration forms are available at the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), and have to be accompanied by a registration fee of EC$ 20.00 and a CD with the competition song.
