Saint Lucia Records Two Dengue-Related Deaths

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has received results from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) confirming two dengue-related deaths in Saint Lucia. As indicated in a previous press release, both individuals were seen and managed at the Owen King European Union Hospital, where they presented with a clinical picture consistent with Dengue Fever.

This now brings the total number of confirmed dengue-related deaths in Saint Lucia to three (3).

A fourth death is currently being investigated. The individual was admitted to hospital with signs and symptoms of Dengue Fever. As per protocol, a sample was tested locally and sent to CARPHA for confirmation. The Ministry of Health and Wellness awaits these results.

As of October 10, 2020, a total of 711 confirmed cases have been recorded. The mean age of cases is 21 years, with an age range from 3 weeks to 84 years.

The northern part of the island continues to report the highest numbers of cases, although cases have been reported throughout the island.
