Marine Unit Intercepts Vessels at Point Du Cap

About 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, six Saint Lucian Nationals were detained by the Marine Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.

Two fishing vessels were intercepted off the coast of Point Du Cap, and the occupants were detained on suspicion of attempting to illegally gain entry into Saint Lucia, from Martinique. Five of the individuals are believed to be residents of Ciceron, Castries, whilst one is a resident of Morne Fortune, Castries, with ages ranging from 30 to 49 years.

No documents to support legitimate travel have been furnished by any of the individuals aboard the vessel. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is currently collaborating with the Customs and Excise Department, as goods appearing to be of French origin were found on the vessels.

The individuals are all being escorted to a government quarantine facility, as investigations into the matter continue.
