THE 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) was held virtually on the Zoom Platform on September 23rd, 2020. The newly elected Board of Directors presents visionary leadership, extensive expertise, vital institutional knowledge, and valuable experience, which are all pivotal in the implementation of the Corporation’s strategic direction for the period 2020 to 2023.
Mr. Eddinton Powell continues in his role as the Chairman of the Board of CARILEC. Mr. Powell previously served in other capacities on the Board of CARILEC as the Vice Chairman, Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee during his 2016 to 2019 term. Mr. Powell recently retired as the President & CEO of Fortis TCI Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis Incorporated), after thirteen (13) years of service with the company. He will continue to serve as a Strategic Advisor to the Board of Directors of Fortis TCI until the end of 2020.
Mr. Leroy Abraham continues to serve as the Vice Chairman of the Board of CARILEC. He also serves as the current General Manager of the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC). This is Mr. Abraham’s second consecutive term on the CARILEC Board of Directors. Other continuing Directors of the Board of CARILEC include: Mr. Collin Cover (Grenada Electricity Services Limited), Mr. Thornley Myers (St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited), Mr. Trevor Louisy (St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited), Mr. Andre Matthias (Antigua Public Utilities Authority), Mr. Clement Williams (St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited), Mr. Albert Gordon (Guyana Power and Light Incorporated), Mr. Whitney Heastie (Bahamas Power and Light Company), Mr. Jervan Swanston (Nevis Electricity Company), Mr. Roger Blackman (Barbados Light and Power Company Limited) and Mr. Cletus Bertin, CARILEC’s Executive Director/Company Secretary/Treasurer and Ex-Officio Member of the Board.
Mr. Fred Cuvalay was re-elected to serve as a Director on the Board of CARILEC for the term 2020 to 2023. He currently serves as the Managing Director of the St. Eustatius Utility Company. Also re-elected were one (1) Associate Member Director and one (1) Alternate Associate Member Director for a one (1) year term of 2020 to 2021. They are Mr. Hugo Hodge (Jr.), Executive Vice President and General Manager of Tantalus Systems Incorporated (Caribbean Basin) and Mr. Gianni Moreno, International Sales and Marketing Director at Hitachi ABB Power Grids, respectively.
Newly elected Independent Power Producers (IPP) Directors on the Board of CARILEC for the period 2020 to 2021 are Mr. Surindranath Ramsingh (IPP Director) who serves as the General Manager of the Power Generation Company of Trinidad and Tobago and Ms. Jacqueline Look Loy (Alternate IPP Director) who serves as the General Manager of Trinity Power Limited.
