Agitated Riviere Mitant Residents Want Road Conditions Addressed Immediately

Traffic along the main road leading into Riviere Mitant (Monchy) has been reduced to snail’s pace and residents want the authorities to rectify the problem. With the road in such a deplorable condition, residents say they will soon be forced to walk to their destination or return home.

Some sections of the road also have crater like holes that pose a grave danger. “It’s just getting worse by the day and really need some urgent attention,” one resident said. “It was all good and well for the politicians to find their way up here three years ago seeking and trying to convince people to vote for them”.

One Mini Bus driver said he was forced to spend over $1500.00 to replace parts for his vehicle due to the poor road conditions. “Two months ago I mention the situation to parliamentary representative for Gros Islet, Lenard Montoute who said, work will commence before Christmas; its almost the eve of the New Year and no signed of work on the road”, another resident said.

The loud unmistakable clanking sound made when vehicles drop into the massive craters that are often undetectable at nights especially when it rains leaves drivers fearing the worse.

A road of holes.

“Slowing down sometimes is a hazard because you run the risk of someone running into your vehicle”, lamented on driver who had to come out of his vehicle and inspect for damages as he became the latest victim to the island’s deplorable road conditions.
