In the second encounter, dubbed “Top of the table clash”, Gros Islet defended stubbornly to earn a hard fought 1 – 0 victory over Marchand to maintain the top of the points table with 12 points. The northern team got their goal from Ed William in the 43rd minute.

It was a remarkable victory considering a number of their key players are currently playing semiprofessional overseas.

Also on Saturday, one match was played in the SLFA Inc. Under 23 Women’s Football competition at the SAB Playing Field.

In that lone encounter, the National Under 14 team bounced back from their first round defeat at the hands of Canaries last weekend to get past the combined team of Micoud and Desruisseaux 6 – 1.

They got their goals with a hat trick from Freeganie Joseph in the 27th, 30th and 53rd minutes and one each from Harmonie Joseph in the 22nd minute, Annicka Louis in the 55th minute and Jerddel Emery in the 68th minute.

Maurrissia Prince scored the lone goal for the combined team in the 32nd minute.
