TABLE TENNIS: D’Andre Calderon Crowned National U15 Champion

THE Saint Lucia National Table Tennis Association (SLNTTA) recently held the Under 15 National Championships at its headquarters in Vide Boutielle opposite the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School. The championship saw junior table tennis player D’Andre Calderon successfully defending his title with a 3 – 0 win over Jelanie Dusauzay in the final.

According to Coach Chris Wells of the SLNTTA, the top four seeded players all held their own and advanced to the quarter-finals.

In the quarter final, defending champion D’ Andre Calderon defeated Stephen Steele in straight sets 3-0. Set scores: 11-4, 11-1, and 11-4.

Jelanie Dusauzay had a similar margin of victory, defeating Rawson Harris 3-0. Set scores: 11-5, 11-2, and 11-9.

Nate John made light work of Jeron Charles defeating him 3-0. Set scores: 11-6, 11-4, and 11-5.

Ishmel Moise secured his semi-final spot when he defeated Jayxan Justin 3-0. Set scores: 11-4, 11-7, and 11-9.

In semifinal action, D’Andre Calderon outplayed Nate after losing the first set to win 3-1. Set scores: 9-11, 11-1, 11-7, and 11-5.

In the second semifinal, JelanieDusauzay had a hard fought match up against Ishmel Moise winning 3-2. Set scores: 11-9, 4-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-3.

In the finals D’Andre and Jelanie showed a variety of consistent attacking strokes as both players used good tactics, but in the end Calderon won 3-1. Set scores: 11-6, 7-11, 11-4, and 11-7.
