Home Stretch for Commercial Plus Netball

It has been mixed fortunes for teams playing in the 2019 Commercial Plus Round Robin Netball Tournament which served off on Tuesday 28th May at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

A total of five teams, namely, Best of Eleven, Small Business, Teachers, Bank of Saint Lucia, and Sandals Grande are jostling for a semi-final spot and bragging rights as Commercial Plus champions.

To date, Teachers and Small Business have nosed ahead with one win each under their belt from their opening game over Bank of Saint Lucia and Best of Eleven. Bank of Saint Lucia has lost both of their matches played; Best of Eleven has won 1 and lost 1.

Last evening Sandals Grande opened their campaign against Best of Eleven, and in an all-important fixture for top of the points table, Small Business took on Teachers.

On centre court on Wednesday 29th, Best of Eleven (BOE) defeated Bank of Saint Lucia (BOSL) 39-22.

The quarter scores, 13-5, 23-10, 29-14 and 39-22.

For Best of Eleven, Lindel Forde (Goal Shoot) led the charge with 23 goals from 40 attempts, Matheline Walter (Goal Attack) scored 6 goals from 10 attempts; Amelia Bertin (Goal Shoot) scored 4 goals from 9 attempts and Saphia Williams scored 6 goals from 10 attempts.

For BOSL, former national player, Germaine Altifois-Fenelon (Goal Shoot) scored 20 goals from 23 attempts, Alana Arthur (Goal Attack) scored 0 goals from 0 attempts and Winnie-Della Rene (Goal Attack) scored 2 goals from 6 attempts.

On day 1 of the tournament (Tuesday 28th) in game 1, Small Business (SB) defeated Best of Eleven (BOE) 35-17. Quarter scores 5-3, 12-6, 14-20 and 17-35.

For BOE, Lindel Forde (GS) scored 14 goals from 30 attempts; Matheline Walter (GA) scored 3 goals from 7 attempts.

For Small Business, Yakima Polius (GS) scored 0 goals from 2 attempts; Pauline Eliodore-Matty (GA) scored 4 goals from 7 attempts, while male player/ basketballer Elijah Williams (GS) netted 31 goals from 45 attempts.

Game 2, Teachers had the better of BOSL 15-41. Quarter scores 7-7, 9-15, 9-32 and 15-41.

For BOSL, Germaine Altifois-Fenelon (GS) scored 13 goals from 14 attempts, Kimberly Florent (GA) scored 0 goals from 3 attempts and Winnie-Della Rene (GA) scored 2 goals from 7 attempts.

For Teachers, Alexandria Eugene (GS) scored 40 goals from 65 attempts and Vanessa Williams (GA) scored 1 goal from 9 attempts.

The tournament continues on Tuesday 4th June at the VMPSC with another double header. From 5.30 p.m., Small Business takes on BOSL and Teachers plays Sandals Grande at 7.00 p.m.

The final preliminary round of matches is scheduled for Wednesday 5th from 5.30 p.m. BOSL takes on Sandals Grande and Best of Eleven plays Teachers at 7.00 p.m.

The showpiece moves into its semi-final stage on Friday 7th, from 5.30 p.m. Winner 1, plays winner 4 and winner 2 takes on winner 3.

The final is scheduled for Wednesday 12th from 7.00 p.m. followed by a closing ceremony at 9.00 p.m.
