CRICKET AND FOOTBALL DOMINATE WEEKEND SPORTS

This weekend, weather permitting, cricket and football are more than likely to dominate sporting events around Saint Lucia despite Mother’s Day celebrations which will be in full swing. A number of sporting enthusiasts are expected to take in sporting activities at the various venues.  

Cricket: Gros Islet

The Gros Islet 2009 domestic cricket tournament bowls off today (Saturday 11th May). The tournament is being held in collaboration with the parliamentary representative Lenard Montoute, the Gros Islet Cricket Association (GICA) and Digicel.

The official launch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m, at the Gros Islet Playing Field with a March Past of the participating teams which will be followed by remarks from the various stakeholders. After that the teams will participate in a Cricket O Rama.

Like last year, some of Saint Lucia’s finest young cricketers will captain the various teams – Gerson Strikers (Simeon Gerson); Melius Challengers (Kimani Melius); Edward Blasters (Dane Edward); Goodman Warriors (Jard Goodman) and Gabriel Falcons (Vernillius Gabriel).

The single round robin competition will also include three Under -15 female developmental teams led by Qiana Joseph, Royce Paul and Tarrique Edward.

 

Cricket: SLNCA

The second round of the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association (SLNCA) senior men’s 50 Overs Tournament continues today (Saturday 11th) with four matches. At the Piaye Playing Field, Soufriere takes on Vieux Fort, while Choiseul travels to Mon Repos for their encounter against the home team at the Wenn Playing Field. Mabouya Valley stays home for their match versus South Castries at the La Ressource Playing Field, while Central Castries takes on Babonneau at the Des Barras Playing Field (Babonneau).

On Sunday 12th, Round 3, South Castries plays Babonneau at the Mindoo Phillip Park; Gros Islet goes up against Central Castries at the Gros Islet Playing Field; Mon Repos takes on Soufriere at the Wenn Playing Field and Choiseul comes up against Vieux Fort at the Piaye Playing Field.

Last weekend in the opening round, there were wins for Mabouya Valley, Soufriere, Mon Repos and South Castries.

 

Cricket: Mabouya Valley T20

Cricket action resumes in the Mabouya Valley Youth and Sports Council T20 Cricket Tournament on Sunday May 12th with a double header. From 10:00 a.m. Monarch plays Rovers; while Survivals will fancy their chances against RYO at 2:00 p.m.

Football: SLFA

The showpiece continues in the Northern Zone Under-13 competition today (Saturday 11th) at the Corinth Playing Field with two matches on the cards.

From 1:00 p.m. VSADC comes up against B1 FC; while at 2:45 p.m. GMC plays Big Players, to complete the final round of preliminary matches.

Also today, the final preliminary round of matches in the Northern Zone Under-11 competition takes place at the SAB Playing Field.

Two matches are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. New Generation FC plays GMC; while Big Players FC takes on Northern United.

In the second double header starting from 11:00 a.m. Flames FC will take on FC Pioneers and B1 FC will come up against Lancers FC.

In the final encounter VSADC plays Monchy FC at 12:00 noon.

In the Western Zone, today, two preliminary round matches will be played in the Under-11 category at the Marigot Playing Field.

From 10:00 a.m. 87 All Stars play CT Foundation FC; while No Fear FC will take on T valley FC at 11:00 a.m.

Tomorrow (Sunday 12th) from 10:00 a.m. the final preliminary match will be played at the same venue between Bays FC and RV Jrs.

On Sunday, the grand final of the Under- 13 category will be played at the Marigot Playing Field from 12:00 noon – No Fear takes on 87 All Stars. This will be preceded by the Third Place Play Off featuring Bays FC and CT Foundation at 11:00 a.m.

Dennery Football

Two games are scheduled for this evening (Saturday 11th) in the Dennery Football League. From 6:30 p.m., DCYO plays Seria Sports Club; while All Blacks takes on Hill Top Ballers at 8:30 p.m. at the Dennery Playing Field.
