YOUTH PLAYERS IN ACTION TODAY

Due to unforeseen circumstances the second annual Saint Lucia National Cricket Association Inter-District Under-19 50 Overs, Cricket Tournament in collaboration with Sandals Saint Lucia which was originally scheduled to bowl off this past weekend will officially start today at three venues around the island.

The tournament is sponsored by Sandals Saint Lucia to the tune of EC$30,000.

The tournament which was officially launched at Sandals Halycon recently will see 13 preliminary rounds matches over six days and will be followed by the quarterfinal on Monday 22nd April, semifinals and finals on Wednesday 1st and Sunday 5th May respectively.

“It was just unfortunate the tournament did not bowl off this past weekend,” Shaun Alcindor, First Vice President of the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association said about the delay over the weekend. “A number of our affiliates have their in-house tournament going at present and also the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is hosting the Regional Police T20 tournament as well. Some of the grounds are unavailable at the moment. A decision was taken to play the matches during the week.”

A number of Saint Lucia’s Under-15 and Under-19 cricketers fresh from the Massy United Insurance Schools Tournament which ended on Friday (5th April) will be in action for their respective districts.

Starting things off is defending champions Gros Islet; who will start their campaign at home against Babonneau at the Gros Playing Field.

Mabouya Valley will be at home to South Castries at the La Ressource Playing Field; while Choiseul plays Soufriere at the Piaye Playing Field.

On Wednesday 17th, Central Castries plays Gros Islet at the Gros Islet playing field; Mabouya Valley takes on Mon Repos at the La Ressource playing field; while Vieux Fort comes up against Soufriere at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds.

On Thursday 18th, Central Castries plays Babonneau at Balata; Mabouya Valley plays South Castries at the La Ressource Playing Field and Choiseul takes on Vieux Fort at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds.

Group 1 comprises of Gros Islet, Babonneau, Central Castries; Group 2: South Castries, Mabouya Valley, and Mon Repos; Group 3: Vieux Fort, Choiseul and Soufriere.

All matches are scheduled to bowl off from 10.00 a.m.
