‘Girls of a Feather’ promoted Empowerment through Self-Actualization at ‘50 More’ Youth Conference

‘GIRLS of a Feather’, a local non- profit organization in St. Lucia has this year teamed up with “I Am a Girl Barbados” to host the second annual “50 More Youth Conference”.

Under the theme “Youth Development For The 21st Century, Focusing on Strategic Planning, Principles of Leadership and Social Empowerment”, the conference was held on Monday December 10th, 2018 at the Blue Coral Conference Room, Castries St. Lucia

‘I Am a Girl Barbados’, is a non- profit organization founded in 2014 with the mission to inspire, empower and provide opportunities for young girls to lead and create positive change in the world.

Generally, it contributes to the overall growth of girls in Barbados and aids in the development of some who may have been exposed to domestic abuse, sexual abuse and different forms violence.

With similar interest as ‘Girls of a Feather’, this year’s “50 More Conference” was held in recognition of International Human Rights Day and also brought closure to 16 Days of Activism for the Elimination of Gender-based Violence Against Women and Girls Around the world.

The one-day conference was designed to cater to both girls and boys between the ages of 14 and 17 and assisting them in casting a positive vision for themselves and their country over the next 50 years.

The day’s program contains three main overarching themes including Leadership, Partnership and Social Impact.

The conference carried the responsibility of touching the lives of 50 different young persons within various schools in St. Lucia and allowing them to be creative, expressive and focused on becoming active citizens.
