Mural project on display at Babonneau Secondary School

THE Babonneau Secondary School is a warm, caring and the only secondary school in the community, providing an opportunity for quality education for approximately 520 pupils from all parts of Babonneau and beyond.

A culture enrichment mural project spearheaded by past teacher, Ms. Joanne Husbands under the theme; ‘AnbwaséKilti-nou- Embracing our Culture’ was carried out Aug 18 – September 02, 2018.

The spirit of the Babonneau Secondary school was artistically unlocked through mural artwork, highlighting the core values of patriotism, national pride and ownership, sporting and academic excellence and other key messages instrumental in creating a legacy of unlocking value, power, leadership and potential within the resources and services at school.

Mr. Terrence Fernelon, Principal at the Babonneau Secondary School applauded this initiative. “I just want to express how happy I am with this project as it has greatly uplifted the ambience of the school. The teachers and students are happy, and the teaching/learning environment is a much more conducive one. I look forward to another such undertaking”, he said.

Mr. Junior Delice, Teacher and Coordinator of the Beckwith International Leadership Development (BILD) Programme Summer Camp and BILD students at the Babonneau Secondary School played an instrumental role in implementing project under the guidance of the proficient and highly skilled lead artist Mr. Naja Simeon. Other renowned expert leveled artists, Mr. Perry Baptiste and Marlon Albertie contributed to this environmental enrichment project.

Ms. Husbands stated “This project was one that the BILD students worked tirelessly on to ensure that the legacy and integrity of the schools’ core values and motto shined through and would be safeguarded and nutured by present and future students.

“Without the collective support from Babonneau Secondary School, BILD students, valued sponsors and volunteers the vision of this project would not be realised.

“The school is a central and common meeting area for the community and there is a lot more work to be done to enrich the comfort, potential and learning environment of this educational institution.

“Thus, I am calling on the religious community, private and public sector, non-governmental organisations and civil society organisations, and community members to heighten their level of support, efforts and contributions for social and environmental enrichment at the school”.
