In discussions surrounding the seminar, the Barbados Chess Federation committed to helping establish the St. Lucia Chess Federation, which would allow the country to participate in international tournaments and events.

The NCF has been developing a Chess in School programme to promote the sport among primary and secondary school students.

Chess has been proven to provide educational and social benefits for youth, including increased focus, self-confidence, critical thinking, and good sportsmanship.

The NCF also organises regular chess tournaments, the next of which will be held in December.

School principals or teachers interested in establishing a chess club at their school are invited to a training seminar scheduled for August 20-22 at Blue Coral Mall in Castries.

The seminar will provide educators will all necessary curriculum and materials to start or strengthen a youth Chess programme at the primary and secondary school levels. Interested parties may contact the NCF to register. (NCF)
