The Desruisseaux playing field came alive this past weekend as football action continued in the 2018 Desruisseaux Football League/Saint Lucia Football Association Promotional Cup with three matches played.

Highlights saw wins for La Courvill, DX United, while Small Axe and Diamond Ballers played to a 2 all draw.

In the first encounter, in front of a crowd close to 700 fans on Sunday 19th August, Small Axe and Diamond Ballers FC played to a 2-2 draw. DBFC led at the end of the first half 2-0 with goals from Lamar Serieux, a beautiful header in the 13th that eluded goalkeeper Al Prince in the far right hand corner to start things off, while Cyrus Faulkner doubled the scoring in the 23rd, and despite several attempts to goal by Small Axe, that’s how the score line remained up to the halftime whistle of Referee Lewis Francis.

On the resumption, and with whatever words of encouragment belted out by the coach, Small Axe FC upped the tempo a few notches as they showed some urgency on the pitch, not the best of playing surface one must admit.

Small Axe’s perseverance finally paid off as Andy Octave pulled one back in the 48th to cut the deficit by one; so it was game on from here on. Diamond Ballers just could not find their first half momentum going as SAFC continued to apply the pressure and in so doing Kevin James found the much deserved equaliser in the 76th just four minutes from regulation time (80 minutes).

In the second encounter, a much thrilling one, fast pace, DX United defeated Green Monsters 1-0, certainly they were not in green attire as the name suggests.

The 1-0 victory put them on top of the table with the goal by Darwin Bideau in the 39th minute bringing his goal tally to four in two encounters.

On Saturday 18th La Courvill defeated Rising Stars 4-1 with goals from Dave Houry 28th, Dolan Houry 29th, DalstonBenxiot 85th and Jason Lewis 88th.

Nathan Terrance scored the lone goal for Rising Stars FC in the 78th.

Matches continue tomorrow at the DPF; Diamond Ballers FC will come up against Blanchard United from 4.00 p.m.
