Desruisseaux Promotional League: Victories for Small Axe and El Ninos

THE Desruisseaux playing field came alive on Sunday 12th August 2018 as the Desruisseaux Football League/Saint Lucia Football Association Promotional Cup continued in that community with victories for Small Axe and defending champions El Ninos.

In the first encounter of a double header, Lion Heart’s Tristan Jones got the opener of the match in the 29th minute, but Small Axe quickly responded with a goal from Gervanie Philip in the 38th to level the scoreline, heading into halftime.

On the resumption, Jessie James put Small Axe ahead in the 47th, while Nicky Octave sealed the deal on the stroke of regulation time, 90th minute, for the win, to claim all three point. Final score 3-1.

The second game saw defending champions El Nino FC continuing their good run on form in the DFL as they trounced a young, but energetic Blanchard United side 5-0.

The goal scorers were Jamal Francis in the 26th, Gerlannie Neptune 60th, Clay Celise 75th, Ectus David 77th and Kurt Charles 87th. The halftime score was 2-0.

Matches continue today, when Green Monsters will take on La Courvill FC.

Tomorrow, Small Axe will come up against Blanchand United, while on Thursday 16, El Ninos will take on Lion Heart. All matches kick off from 4.00 p.m. at the DPF.

Meanwhile, according to Innocent St.Ange, DFL President, there are nine teams in the tournament and will be playing a round robin in two groups.

In terms of the quality of play on the pitch and the support by the fans, he said, “There has been a great improvement; there is still work to be done by the various teams. The crowd support has been encouraging, the many fans coming to the games on match days have their favourite teams and that augurs well for the game of football in Desruisseaux”.

Group A, comprises-Rising Stars, La Courvill, DX United and Green Monsters.

Group B, include-El Ninos, Small Axe, Diamond Ballers, Blanchard United and Lion Heart.

The two top teams in each group after the first round of competition will play semifinal; top of Group A versus the second team in Group B, while the winner of Group B will take on the second place team in Group A.
