UWI Open Campus Council Meeting discussed Opening Doors to Life Changing Learning

PRESS RELEASE – ON Tuesday 27 March, members of the Open Campus Council met for its Annual Meeting in Antigua.

This sitting of the Open Campus Council marked the inaugural meeting for new Council Chairman, Ambassador Dr. June Soomer.

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal, Dr. Luz Longsworth presented her 2016/2017 report to Council on the major advancements and activities undertaken over the last academic year, as well as projections for the campus’ future.

Remarks were also delivered by Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.

The theme of Principal Longsworth’s presentation was Opening Doors to Life Changing Learning and it was livestreamed on www.uwitv.org, followed by media conference immediately after the Principal’s and Vice-Chancellor’s presentations.

Each of The UWI’s four campuses has a Council which is its governing and executive body, prescribed by the University’s Statute 21 and subject to The University’s Charter.

The annual meeting of the Campus Council is a fundamental aspect of the accountability of The UWI, where annual and faculty/departmental reports are presented.

The financial reports—for each year ending 31st July—are submitted to the Campus Finance and General Purpose Committees/Finance Sub-Committees for consolidation and approval en route to their respective Campus Councils and then to the University Council for final approval.

The discussions at the Campus Council meetings also include reports from University officers and committees on matters such as academic and curriculum updates, enrolment statistics, graduate throughput, strategic initiatives and administrative issues.
