Saint Lucia Wins Tri Nation Netball Series

TEAM Saint Lucia emerged winners of the recently-held Tri Nation Netball Series in Grenada. The three day series which was played at the Tanteen Netball Complex saw Saint Lucia winning three of their four matches.

Saint Lucia was the highest ranked team (18th) going into the tournament, with Grenada 23rd, while Saint Vincent and the Grenadines presently do not have a ranking from the International Netball Federation (INF).

All three teams secured a victory, a clear indication that the tournament was highly competitive.

Playing the final game of the tournament, Team Saint Lucia succumbed to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in a hard-fought encounter 51-46. They led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter, while trailing 22-21 at the end of the half. They managed to claw back to level the scores 33-33 at the end of the third quarter but in the end wilted.

The final game of the tournament resulted in host Grenada defeating Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 53-52 in a nail-biter.

Judy Mathurin was adjudged Saint Lucia’s Most Valuable Player of the series.

Results in matches played: Grenada 54, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 59; Saint Lucia 45, Grenada 31; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 42, Saint Lucia 58; Grenada 37, Saint Lucia 49; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 51, Saint Lucia 46; Grenada 53, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 52.

International Umpiring Manager, Christina Davidson, congratulated the Grenada Netball Association for hosting the event. She said, “The tournament was played in such high spirit and comradery with Saint Lucia winning most of the matches, while Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and host Grenada coming away with a victory, is a clear indication how competitive and thrilling the series was played.”
