Windwards, Guyana 50-Overs Cricket Today

THE Windward Islands Women’s Cricket team will start their WICB Regional Super 50 Overs campaign against Guyana today as the tournament bowls off in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Following a series of matches in Dominica, a Windward Islands squad was selected and the team immediately went into a training camp in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

In a practice match played at Arnos Vale against the United Survival Women’s Team XI, the Windward Islands selectees scored a mammoth 327 for the loss of 4 wickets and won convincingly after bowling aggressively to limit their opponent to at one stage 37 without loss 11 overs.

For the Windward islands selectees Saint Lucia’s Swayline Williams scored an inspiring 106 not out while Juliana Nero scored an impressive 40 runs before being caught. Williams was also ably supported by Cordel Jack’s knock of 37.

Qiana Joseph was the peak of the bowling, finishing with figures of 3 for 5 while Nerissa Crafton and Akira Peters grabbed two wickets off their three overs bowled.

Four Saint Lucian females were selected to the Windwards Islands team: Roylin Cooper, Swayline William, Qiana Joseph and Nerissa Crafton. The remainder of the squad reads: RosiliaRegiste, Afy Fletcher,(Captain ) Juliana Nero (Vice-Captain), Holly Charles, Akeira Peters, Krishni Irish, GlendeenTurtin, Area Fortune, Stacy Ann Adams, Cordel Jack.

The team is coached by Samantha Lynch of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines while Saint Lucia and former West Indies player Eugena Gregg is Team Manager.

A motivational and team building session took place on Thursday and was facilitated by former Saint Vincent, Windward Islands, Combined Islands and West Indies wicketkeeper, Michael Findlay.
