Sharks Swimmers Launch Independence Competitions

IN commemoration of Saint Lucia 38th independence anniversary, the Sharks Swim Club has launched a series of competitions as part of its “Sharks Give Back” campaign for this year..

The philosophy of Sharks is to embrace an attitude of kaizen (continuous improvement). Sharks coaches know that this carries over into all life’s endeavours and so the Sharks Swim Club Independence competitions were birthed.

Primary and Secondary School kids will be eligible to participate in Essay, Drawing, Poetry, and Photography competitions. Each category is open to all schools on the island and the focus is on sports, as it is believed that sports provides some form of expressive liberation to and for the youth.

For the drawing competition which carries the theme “Independence and Sports”, an individual can submit three entries but only two will be judged. Submissions can also be coloured.

The Essay Competition is on the topic “Why do you take part in sports? It is for primary schools and should be between 250 and 300 words.

For Secondary Schools the topic is “No pain no gain. What it means to take part in sports”. Submissions should be between 500 and 1000 words.

The poetry competition is under the theme: “Overcoming Adversity” and is open to primary and seondary schools.

The photograthy competition carries the theme “The spirit of sports” and is also for both primary and secondary students.

All submissions must be sent to: [email protected], along with your name, age, name of school, grade and name of competition. The deadline for submission is February 28.
