Saint Lucian artiste wins international award

tj-congrats

Teddyson John, affectionately known as TJ to his Saint Lucia family and international fan base, is the proud recipient of the International World and Reggae Music Awards Best Soca/Calypso Artist title for 2016!

Earlier this year, the entire island threw its support behind the prolific singer when he vied for the coveted title of Carib Breakout Artiste of the Year for International Soca Monarch 2016 in Trinidad and Tobago. He performed admirably as usual and gained lots of support and respect as a Saint Lucian cultural ambassador.

Teddyson, known for his amazing vocal ability, is also an accomplished keyboardist and percussionist.

According to Creative Industries Officer Imran Emmanuel, “Teddyson has been one of our most consistent and dedicated artistes and we are beyond proud of the latest in his string of achievements. We extend our congratulations to him and his team and wish him continued success as one of our prominent Cultural Ambassadors.”

The Department of Creative Industries has been supportive of the musician’s promotional tours and also with the production of his annual Carnival event, U4ria.

“Congratulations are in order for this accomplishment!” said Minister for Local Government, Culture and Creative Industries, Fortuna Belrose, upon receiving the news.

This is the first time a Saint Lucian has been nominated for the International World and Reggae Music Awards and this is a commendable step in the right direction for Saint Lucian musicians.

The “Allez” singer was quoted as saying: “Words can’t describe how I feel right now!!!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone for their continued love and support. Thank you for not giving up on me!!!! Thank you for staying with me on my journey!!!! Can’t wait for you to hear this new music in 2017!!!!”

The Ministry for Equity, Social Justice, Empowerment, Youth Development, Sports, Culture and Local Government, having recently participated in the launch of a Music Strategy for Saint Lucia, looks forward to promoting and sustaining the national music industry.
