FROM June , the National Tennis Centre team along with volunteer coaches from the United Through Sport Organization (UTS) Coach Jack Baker and Coach Chris Bigwood visited various schools and communities on the island to introduce tennis at the beginner’s level. Those schools includedBabonneau Primary, Monchy Primary, Ciceron Combined, Ti Rocher Combined Castries, and two southern schools Vieux Fort Primary School and the Pierrot Combined School.

Over 20 students from each primary school had the opportunity to learn fun tennis basics and drills from the tennis team. As exams were coming to a close and the school term ending, the tennis association took the opportunity to encourage students and teachers to keep active on the court in a fun and healthy environment.

With assistance from Coach Ricardo Francois, the tennis team and schools participants had a blast. The St. Lucia Tennis Association is seeking ways to keep tennis alive and growing in these schools and looks forward to an improvement in the new term.

As the summer holidays are on the St. Lucia National Tennis Centre also hosted a week long summer camp for our 12 and under juniors and beginners. National Tennis Coach Carlos Lopez, UTS Coach Jack, UTS Coach Chris and Coach Ricardo also assisted Camp organizers Scyla Murray and Diana Stanislas to put on an impressive training and development session for junior players and beginners.

With a few weeks left of summer the United through Sport Organization is running a series of camps in outer districts and plans to work with the St. Lucia Crisis Centre very soon.

The St. Lucia Tennis Association said it appreciates the assistance from the volunteer organization and looks forward to continued partnership in the future.
