FLOW has extended congratulations to the St. Lucia Amateur Swimming Association on the successful staging of the 2016 Goodwill Games Swim Meet.

The competition was held August 19 – 21 at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre. Flow came on board as a major sponsor to assist SLASA with preparations for the event.

Young swimmers from six Caribbean islands competed in the championship, including St. Lucia, Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Bahamas. They ranged in ages from 7 – 17.

Trinidad & Tobago had the highest combined team scores and placed first overall, followed by Suriname, Barbados and St. Lucia. The Bahamas and Guyana teams came in fifth and sixth respectively.

Flow St. Lucia Marketing and Communication Executive, ShermalynSidonie-John said: “We also wish to congratulate the swimmers, including Team St. Lucia, for their gallant performances and their dedication. Flow is all about the development of sports and helping to create avenues for St. Lucia’s talented young athletes to hone their skills.

“Swimming requires a high level of discipline and it’s one of those sports that provides the youths with opportunities for scholarships and the chance to compete on the international stage. That is really what Flow is aiming for as we continue to support the development of sports locally and throughout the Caribbean.”

The Goodwill Games Swim Meet gives St. Lucia’s young up-and-coming swimmers who want to make it to the next stage of competitive swimming, namely the CARIFTA Swimming Championships, the opportunity to step up and compete with some of the best swimmers in the Southern Caribbean.

For older swimmers who may have qualified for CARIFTA but were not selected, the meet gives them an opportunity to represent their country. It also provides an opportunity for a cultural exchange among the islands.
