16 for Street Football Finals

AFTER a thrilling couple of qualifying legs and an excellent display of skill, tenacity and pure determination, 16 teams, from community leagues around the island, have qualified for the local finals of the Guinness Street Football Challenge

The Challenge sees Veterans from Castries who captured the title of Regional Champions in 2015 making the list of finalists again with Rovers, Ghetto Youths, U.T.L, Yo Pe, Agard, Italist, Last Minute, Crank Boyz, Winsville Empire, Ti La We, Snipers, Soccer Stars, Die in Da Ring, Can’t Take Your Cries and Fantastic.

The winning local team will win a prize of EC$6000 and a spot amongst other regional finalist teams.

Speaking on the journey to the local finals thus far, Guinness Brand Manager, Rohan Lovence congratulated all the teams who made the final 16, noting how much of a gruelling process it was and further commended all the other players who participated in qualifying legs throughout the past weeks.

The regional finals will take place at The Ramp in Rodney Bay and will see nine country teams trying their best to dethrone reigning champions, Saint Lucia.

International Football player and Manchester United Legend, Dwight Yorke as well as International freestyler from Sweden Philip Gertsson are currently enlisted as Ambassadors for Guinness Street Football Challenge, which is now in its sixth year.

The winner of the Guinness Street Football Challenge will receive among other prizes, an all expenses paid trip to Brazil, the home of football to see a major game in Rio de Janeiro.

The public is encouraged to come out to support their favourite local teams this Sunday and Team Saint Lucia next weekend at the regional finals.
