Women’s Cricket – S. Castries, Gros Islet In Finals

A new champion will be crowned on Saturday when the final of the AcyntaAuguste Women’s 50 over competition is played at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Ground following the defeat of 2015 champions Choiseul in the semifinals on Saturday last.

In the second semifinalGros Islet defeated Laborie by 83 runs on Sunday to book their ticket to the final.

At the MPP, South Castries batting first scored 174 all out with Maria David top scoring with 68, Philippa Thomas Eudovic getting 22, Ashlene Edward 16 and Paulina Francis.

Bowling for Choiseul, WaldishaJn Baptiste picked up 5 for 35 and Roylin Cooper 3 for 32

Choiseul replied with 138, Allyier Alfred making 45, Cooper 17 and Julia Simon 10.

Bowling for South Castries, Joanne Alphonse bagged 4 for 13, Nerissa Crafton 3 for 16 and VerenaFelicien 2 for 10.

The Gros Islet team completed a well-earned victory over a very spirited Laborie Women’s Team on Sunday at the Crossover Park in Laborie.

The Gros Islet ladies, asked to take first knock in a match reduced to 33 overs due to see pages on the wicket, were helped by a century opening stand of 114 between openers Malika Edward and Marlene Preville and reached 243 for the loss of 4 Fifteen year old Qiana Joseph top scored for Gros Islet with a flourishing knock of 57 not out which included 5 fours and 2 sixes, Malika Edward got an attractive knock of 55 with of 6 fours, Marlene Preville scored 42.

In reply, Laborie was restricted to 160 for 9 in their 33 overs, with Cecilia Lambert making 51 which included 8 fours while Cecile Emmanuel scored 39.

For the Gros Islet ladies, the wicket takers were veteran player Elizabeth William with 3 for 30 in 7 overs and Roseline Preville with 2 for 36 in 7 overs.
