Win Windwards Title For Third Time.

THE George F.L. Charles Airport at Vigie was hive of activity on Sunday 19 April government officials for the second time in a week were kept in a welcoming mode.

This time it was for the Saint Lucia Under – 15 cricket team which returned home after winning the Winlott Windward Islands under – 15 cricket title for the third consecutive year.

The St. Lucians won ahead of their final game versus St. Vincent and the Grenadines which they also defeated.

The team was met by Deputy Prime Minister Phillip J. Pierre, Minister of Youth Development and Sports Shawn Edward and Permanent Secretary Dr. Anthony George, Minister for Education Dr. Robert Lewis and the Director of Youth and Sports Jim Xavier.

At the brief ceremony held in the VIP lounge, with family members present, the team was addressed by officials and was also presented with gifts from the host.

Saint Lucia had a convincing 85 run win over Grenada at Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth, Dominica on Friday.

Saint Lucia batted first and posted 201 for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Garvin Serieux continued with his good form in the tournament and led the way with a well-played 62. AkeemAuguste added 30 and Dominique Auguste 32 not out.

Chasing Grenada 202 for victory Grenada was bowled out for 115. Anthony Dunbar scored 28 and Kaydun Felix 22 were the only two batsmen to show any resistance.

Bowling for Saint Lucia Zephaniah Edwin bagged 5 for 20 and Simeon Gerson 3 for 18 respectively.

Host Dominica had to settle for last place as they went down to St. Vincent and the Grenadines at Windsor Park. Scores in the encounter Dominica 206 for 9.St. Vincent and the Grenadines in reply 207 for 6.

Final points standing St. Lucia 8, Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines both have 5 and Dominica in the cellar position with just 2.

Meanwhile, a fourteen member team has been selected to represent the Windward Islands Under -15 team in this year’s West Indies Cricket Board tournament scheduled for Grenada from July 24 to August 4. The players selected from St.Lucia are Simeon Gerson (captain), Garvin Serieux, Lee Solomon, Keygan Arnold, Zephaniah Edwin and Dominic Auguste. The two Reserves – AkeemAuguste and Jaden Elibox.

The team will be under the watchful eyes of Head Coach – Alton Crafton (St.Lucia).
