Salvation Army Fund-raiser

A MAJOR fund raising event on behalf of the Salvation Army takes place tomorrow.

‘An Evening of Sax & Song’ comes off at the National Cultural Centre at 6:00 p.m. featuring some of Saint Lucia’s top saxophonists and vocalists such as Barbara Cadet, Augustin ‘Jab’ Duplessis, Deland ‘DeeSax’ St. Jules, Rashaad Joseph, Glen Henry, Patsy Cadet, Barbara Bully-Thomas and Deanna Phillip.

The public is asked to come out and support this worthy cause and to enjoy this incredible night of music. Admittance costs $50 each and tickets can be obtained in advance at Courts stores, the “old” Volney Gas Station, the Fisherman’s Cooperative Gas Station and the Salvation Army HQ – or simply pay at the door – and enjoy a fabulous night of entertainment whilst supporting the humanitarian programmes of The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army, a faith based international organization, has been in Saint Lucia since 1902, committing itself to providing for the poor and needy in the country.

They are best known for the Kettle Programme at Christmas time where the money that is collected goes toward providing food hampers for many individuals and families, street persons, and institutions such as The Crisis Centre, The Ex-Servicemen’s League, and many communities island-wide through the Ministry of Social Transformation, Local Government and Community Empowerment.

In December 2015 over 800 food hampers were distributed. The Day Care and Kindergarten at their headquarters also provide education and care for young children. The daily “meals on wheels” programme caters for more than 60 persons, and has seen a significant increase in numbers recently. The Army’s Thrift store which it operates with donations made by the public, provides clothing for the homeless and fire victims.

The organization says it is extremely grateful to have deed-of-covenant partners in a few corporate citizens of Saint Lucia, but always welcomes additional funding for the various programmess that they manage.
