THE artistes down to perform at the 2016 edition of The Jazz Sampler are getting a clearer insight into the business side of the music and entertainment industry.
A series of workshops have been organized for the performers. The workshops, which began on Wednesday, cover topics such as wardrobe, hair and make-up, physical fitness, vocal technique, as well as artiste image, branding and promotions.
Three major workshops are scheduled for Monday at the Bay Gardens Hotel. The first, on Financial Management gets underway at 5:00 p.m. It will be presented by Chartered Accountant, Michael Andrew, who will speak on the importance of Savings, Investment and Budgetting for sustainability and success in the entertainment industry.
From 6:00 p.m. Marketing Consultant – Mineva Ross, will speak on artiste branding, positioning and promotion. At 7:00 p.m. Attorney at Law, Russell Williams, will present a workshop on entertainment and media law. He will cover topics such as Intellectual Property Law, Trademarks and Contract Law.
Later during the week, Musical Director of The Jazz Sampler, KensonHippolyte will do a session on Technical Skills. Deredee Williams and Maria Lamontagne will conduct Vocal Training sessions for the young and upcoming singers who will perform at this year’s show.
Now into its fourth season, producers of The Jazz Sampler – Sisterhood – say the workshops are designed to add value and create sustainability in the music industry here, especially for our national artistes and musicians.
Jazz Sampler 2016 is being staged under the theme “The Master and Apprentice”. Local music icons have been paired with young, up and coming artistes and musicians. The Show is slated for Saturday April 9 at the National Cultural Centre from 8:00 p.m. .
