JUST days after winning the Community Achievement Athlete Award at the National Sports Awards, West Indies Under-16 batsman KimaniMelius scored a magnificent century as he propelled Babonneau Secondary to a huge 152 run victory over Leon Hess Comprehensive in the 2016 Massy United Insurance Under-19 Schools Cricket Tournament on Thursday.

Babonneau Secondary taking first knock in a match reduced to 30 overs a side due to persistent morning showers, made an impressive 303 for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted overs. Opening batsman, captain Melius, batted through the inning, finishing on a stroke filled 196 not out which included of 18 fours and 14 sixes.

Other useful contributions came from Stavone Gabriel with 31, Jelani Cupid 24 and Christian Alfred 18. For Leon Hess Comprehensive, the wicket takers were UdellPreville, Jaden Elibox and Hakeem Mathurin with one wicket each.

In reply, an unbeaten attacking half-century by Mateo Boulogne (80), was not enough as Leon Hess Comprehensive was dismissed for 151 in 24.5 overs. Boulogne’s knock included 14 fours and one six.

For Babonneau Secondary, the wickets were shared among, Christian Alfred 3 for 30 in 6 overs, Wilson Charlemagne (2 for 26 in 6 overs) and Jelani Cupid 2 for 33 in 6 overs.

The match between SDA Academy and Marigot Secondary scheduled for the Monchy Playing Field was not played due to wet conditions.

The tournament continues on Tuesday, In Group E: CARE versus Corinth Secondary at the Gros Islet Playing Field. Group C: Entrepot Secondary against George Charles Secondary at the Monchy Playing Field. Group B: Micoud Secondary plays Clendon Mason Memorial at the Dennery Playing Field and Group D: St. Mary’s College versus Marigot Secondary.

On Wednesday in Group D: Sir Ira Simmons Secondary against SDA at the Gros Islet Playing Field; Group E: Leon Hess Comprehensive play Ciceron Secondary at the Monchy Playing Field; Group A: Piaye Secondary versus Soufriere Comprehensive at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.

On Thursday in, Group C: Gros Islet plays Sir Arthur Lewis Community College at the Monchy Playing Field; Group D: Marigot Secondary versus Vide Bouteille Secondary at the La Resource Playing Field; while Group B: AnseGer Secondary against Grande Riviere Secondary at the Dennery Playing Field.
