Woman Faces Murder Charge

A woman who was being questioned by police in connection with the first homicide of the year has been charged with murder.

Thirty-two year old Melissa Joseph of Capitol Hill, has been charged with the murder of 45 year old, Joseph Herman of the same area.

Herman was admitted to the Victoria Hospital on December 31 after sustaining multiple stab wounds to the body on Jeremie Street, Castries but succumbed to his injuries on New Year’s Day.

Joseph was scheduled to make an appearance before the First District Court yesterday.

Meanwhile, police have formally charged 21 year old, Devon Estwick of Leslie Land, Castries for the offences of possession of firearm and possession of ammunition.

Estwick was searched by police last Thursday after responding to a report of stealing in Leslie Land, Castries. During the search, the police discovered one .45 pistol and two rounds of ammunition concealed on his person.

Estwick was also scheduled to make an appearance before the First District Court yesterday.

On Sunday, at about 3:19 a.m. police responded to a report of a burglary at the Morne Bakery in Morne Fortune, Castries. Upon arrival on the scene, they encountered two suspects who were in possession of housebreaking implements.

The police officers identified themselves and in the process of apprehending the suspects, a police officer discharged one round of ammunition, wounding one of the suspects in the left thigh.

The suspect was transported to the Victoria Hospital where he was treated and discharged. Both suspects are in custody assisting with investigations.
