Sandals Win Rotary Charity Golf Event

UNDER clear skies and a light breeze twenty four teams gathered at the St. Lucia Golf Club for the annual Rotary Charity golf event last Saturday.

The event was to raise funding for the Rotary Club of Gros Islet to assist the under privileged in the community.

According to St.Lucia Golf Association President Timothy Mangal, the annual showpiece is a big event on the St.Lucia Golf Association calendar and in the process saw a number golfers coming out of retirement to participate for a worthy cause.

When the dust had settled and scores tallied it was the trio of Andre Dhanpaul, Andrew Felicien and Lennon Francis representing Sandals La Toc who captured the Claude Guillaume trophy with a net 59. Second place went to team Le Sport Body Holiday: Henix Joseph, Eugene Edwin and Dwayne King with Net 60 decided on count back, while team Rotary Club of Port of Spain West with R. Amar, R. Deonarine and DaronhilMauricette, also with a net of 60, took third place.

Other awards for individual performances in the following categories were: Nearest the pin on hole No. 8 for men – Naveen Urs, Nearest the pin on hole No. 3 for Ladies – Joan Paul: No junior got on the green for the prize on hole No. 14. Longest drive on hole No.16 for men – Eugene Edwin, Longest drive on hole No. 4 for seniors – Victor Charles; Longest drive on hole No.15 for super seniors – Alex Blanchard; Longest drive on hole No. 7 for ladies – Pat Bowden and Longest drive on hole No. 10 for Juniors – Miles McNamara.
