DESPITE the scorching afternoon heat, last Sunday’s Oktoberfest en Kwéyòl brought out hundreds of patrons.

The event, now in its eighth year, did supply many eats and drinks, especially local and international beer. A number of booths also featured locally-made craft items.

The musical performances were many, beginning with the Harmonites Steel Orchestra around 3 p.m. and continuing with the likes of Secret QBand, Gregory Sinaise, AvotSevis, Lightning Stars, Leonette Pierre, Derek Yarde Project (DYP), Alman, Educator, Robbie, Invader, and Ras Africa.

However, by 9:00 p.m. when Martiniquan band, Metal Sound, came on stage, patrons seemed to have had enough. As good as they were, headliner Metal Sound did not seem to have the energy to put the fans into much of a frenzy as did many of the performers gracing the stage before them.

The WLBL-organized event was relocated from Samaans Park to Gaiety on Rodney Bay mere days before its slated date due to concerns about the noise level. However, some patrons complained that the showhad lost some of its usual ‘vibe’ this year, due in part to the relocation.
