Kewyol Poems Launching Tuesday

AS part of Creole Heritage Month, the Saint Lucia Writers’ Forum is launching an anthology of kweyol poems, SéTalanNou; a collection of ten poems by six of its present members.

The poems explore issues of love, faith and spirituality, culture and tradition, superstition, folklore, nature, beauty and language. The diversity is quite a treat to be heard.

The collection follows on from a workshop series last month on the writing and reading of kweyol conducted by Mr Hilary Laforce of the Folk Research Centre. The intense and comprehensive training allowed the participants to develop a facility in the usage of kweyol, correct certain misconceptions about the language and develop a greater appreciation for the oral culture which can now be written.

The Forum will launch the anthology on Tuesday next week at 7:00 p.m. at the Castries Central Library. The collection will be available for purchase at $10 and the poems will be performed at the event. Other talents will be on display that night and the general public is invited to come own a copy and celebrate this achievement with the members of the Forum.
