JAPAN has come to the rescue of the St Lucia Red Cross with a brand new fully-loaded ambulance to replace one deliberately set on fire by arsonists nearly two years ago.

The US$62,000 vehicle was presented to Red Cross President Kenneth Monplaisir Wednesday by Japanese Ambassador Mitsuhiko Okada.

The money for the ambulance was sourced through the Japan Grant for Grassroots Human Security Projects and included provision to equip it and transport it to St Lucia.

Monplaisir welcomed the gift, saying “This sort of thing does not happen every day”.

Full details of the presentation will be carried in Tuesday’s VOICE.
