IT was a record breaking performance for ten swimmers representing the Sports Academy this past weekend at the annual Sea Jays Swim Club sponsored Capri Sun time trials to select St. Lucia’s squad for the championship scheduled for Antigua next month.

Sue Dyson an executive member of the Academy said the swimmers performed outstandingly and “we are proud of their latest achievements.”

The ten swimmers between them haued 6 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Dyson also spoke about the two year old Sports Academy:“ The Sports Academy is a non profit Charitable Trust that is managed through volunteer efforts. The coaches involved in our sporting programmes receive a nominal fee / payment for their services; some of our swimming coaches, such as our Head Coach for the elite swimmers, are voluntary.

“Our programme operates through private memberships, specialty organizations, and school programmes. We are currently putting together corporate packages as well. Our funding is based upon paying private members as well as sponsors and donations to help cover costs for programmes to assist those less fortunate”.
