September Business Month

DURING the month, the ministry’s various support organizations will reach out to the business community to provide resources that will help strengthen their operations.

The Ministry of Commerce on Monday launched Business Month under the theme “Economic Growth through Business Support with a focus on Youth and Women.”

Minister for Commerce, Business Development, Investment and Consumer Affairs, Emma Hippolyte, said it was imperative that her ministry utilizes the month of September to highlight the role of business in the economy.

“We at the Ministry of Commerce have long recognized that despite the number of support agencies available to provide assistance to the business community in Saint Lucia, very few people are aware of the services and the wealth of resources and information that are accessible to them,” she said. “Some of these business are struggling to survive, yet the answers to their problems may be just a phone call or a mouse click away.”

The Minister added that business month also seeks to highlight the efforts of the ministry’s various support organizations.

“Business month will initiate discussion among our populace regarding entrepreneurship and the role that businesses – both large and small – play in the development of our country, and will reach out to the business community to provide knowledge and resources that will strengthen their current operations. Business Month allows us to focus on our achievements and challenges faced by the private sector.”

Some of the events for Business Month include the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce’s Junior Achievement Award Ceremony, and a televised panel discussion slated for broadcast on NTN on successful women in emerging and non-traditional sectors.
