ELECTION PRAYER

HONESTLY, I hate election time. Others I know revel in it. Some people love the slander and the mepwi. A lot of the traits that we would detest for our children to emulate are glorified and openly exhibited. Election campaigning brings out the worst in us.

I have always lamented that we are quick to find the problem but do nothing to bring about a solution. While I believe in prayer I also believe that faith without work is dead. And so yes I pray:

Father Lord
It is election time
Not that you don’t already know
But that we fear for this grand show
Where poisoned seeds of discord grow.
The prickled beds on which we lie
Were sown by those of long ago
How deep the roots of hatred go
I must confess you only know.
The lies we hear have but such soot
That none can spread but evil shoots
And so for truth to you we look
O lead us Lord as you should choose.
The fruit of peace we ask you give
Our nation save from vile deceit
The ways of life we pray you teach
A tree of love our people be.

And I continue to take the road less travelled, the independent model, as I am convinced that it is the way out of our governmental woes and like Robert Frost someday,

“I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.
