Two Centuries In Division One Cricket

THE St. Lucia National Cricket Association Mindoo Phillip Premier League Inter District Division 1 Two Day Cricket Tournament continued over the weekend with wins for Gros Islet, Mon Repos, Soufriere and Mabouya Valley.

At the Gros Islet Playing Field, the home team registered a comprehensive innings and 160 run victory over Anse la Raye. Gros Islet’s dominance was spear headed by a century from Vernillius Gabriel, a half-century from Captain Larry Edward and 5 wicket hauls from Millan David and Rene Montoute.

Anse la Raye batting first was dismissed for 88 in 29.3 overs, with Neil Labadie finishing on 23 not out.

For Gros Islet, the chief destroyer was left arm orthodox spinner Millan David who bowled impressively, finishing with figures of 6 for 20 in 10 overs. Good support also came from Lee Solomon with 1 for 13 in 5 overs, Larry Edward 1 for 15 in 3.3 overs and Simeon Gerson 1 for 19 in 6 overs.

Gros Islet in their turn at the crease was dismissed for 363 in 60.4 overs, with left handed batsman Gabriel stroking a brilliant knock of 153 which included 16 fours and 3 sixes. Skipper Edward fell short of a century by 12 runs as he was dismissed for a well-played 88 which included 9 fours and 5 sixes. Other useful scores also came from Kurt Edward with 43 and Dane Edward 35.

Bowling for Anse la Raye, Devaughn Charles picked up 4 for 121 in 20 overs and JemmiMauricette 3 for 100 in 11.4 overs.

With a deficit of 275 on first innings, Anse la Raye was bowled out for 115 in 33.5 overs with Nesmond Victor making 36 and JemmiMauricette 18. For Gros Islet, left arm unorthodox spinner Rene Montoute bowled beautifully, picking up 5 for 6 in 5 overs. The other wicket takers were, Millan David with 1 for 6 in 7 overs, Larry Edward 1 for 12 in 7 overs, Simeon Gerson 1 for 25 in 5.5 overs and Kurt Edward 1 for 26 in 5 overs.

In Soufriere, the home team made 330 against Vieux Fort, Sylvanus Augustin scored an unbeaten 78, Julian Sylvester made 57. Vieux Fort replied with 136, with Richie Roberts scoring 53. In their second turn at the crease, Soufriere declared at 117 for 4, and then bowled Vieux Fort out for 92 with Eardley Dupres top scoring with 30. Vieux Fort North was still 120 runs short of the target. For Soufriere DaliusMonrose picked up 6 for 16.

Home team Dennery suffered a loss by an innings and 26 runs to neighbours Mabouya Valley. In their first innings Dennery were skittled out for 66. Bowling for Mabouya Valley Christian Ange picked up a career best of 9 for 32. In reply Mabouya Valley scored 212, Dale Smith top scored with 111.

Bowling for Dennery Andrew Joseph claimed 5 for 49. Dennery, batting a second time, was dismissed for 120. Andrew Joseph top scored with 35. Bowling for Mabouya Valley Dale Smith 3 for 11 and Christian Ange 3 for 47.

In Mon Repos, the home side beat South Castries by 99 runs. Mon Repos made 236. The top scorers Craig Emmanuel (85) and Sabinus Emmanuel (70). Bowling for South Castries Marion Lawrence 4 for 88 and Tonius Simon 3 for 61. South Castries replied with 175, SwaylanAuguste got 25. Bowling for Mon Repos Jamal Auguste had 3 for 10.

Batting a second time Mon Repos made 266. Sabinus Emmanuel was again among, the runs. He made 64, Kevin Augustin 56, Craig Emmanuel 44 and Hazel Charley 42.

Bowling for South Castries Tonius Simon had 4 for 83 and Daniel Jn Baptiste 3 for 43.

Needing 327 to win South Castries was bowled out for 228, Mario Lawrence (62) and Nixon Edmund (60) were the main contributors with the bat. Bowling for Mon Repos Jamal Lesmond picked up 3 for 73.
