UNDER-16 NETBALL TODAY

WEATHER permitting the VigieMulti Purpose Sports Complex will be a hive of netball activity later today for the opening of the 15th Jean Pierre Caribbean Under – 1 6 Netball Championship.

Leading St. Lucia’s charge at the championship is captain Bianca Alfred ( GD, GK, WD) and vice captain Kamala Mangal (GS, GA, WA). The two ladies will have alongside them Kiana Nelson (WA, GA, GS), Darcelle Francis (C, WD), Megan Nestor (GD, GK, WD), Laurina Nicholas (WA, WD), Tanny William (GA, WA, GK), Janell Mathurin (WA, C), Joanne Wilfred (WA, C, GS), MerkissaTheodule, (WA, GS), Jeremiah Evariste(GD, WD, GK), and Sherel Williams (WD, GD, GK).

Like previous years the championship that is named after renowned international netballer from Trinidad and Tobago has high on its agenda, to foster the physical, social and emotional development of under – 16 netballers of the Caribbean, through sports, social activities and life skills programmes.

For the very first time in the history of the championship two scholarships will be awarded to two outstanding netballers between the age of 14 – 16 years to attend college in the United Kingdom up until the age of 18 years with all expenses paid for a four year period.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be glued on Court No.1 where host St.Lucia plays Bermuda from 6:15 p.m. On Court No.2 Barbados will be up against Dominica from 6:30 p.m. and to bring the curtain down on day 1, Trinidad and Tobago takes on Grenada from 6:45pm.

Tomorrow, on Court No. 1 – St.Vincent and the Grenadines plays Trinidad and Tobago from 6:00 p.m on Court No. 2, Grenada meets Bermuda from 6:15 p.m. and on Court No.3 St. Lucia takes on Dominica from 7:00 p.m.
