Soufriere T20 Cricket League On

CRICKET action continues this weekend in the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation T20 League at the Mini Stadium. From 3.00 p.m. Team Unite plays Belfond and from 7.00 p.m. Police meets Zenon.

Tomorrow at the same venue with The Steel plays River Roots from 3:00 p.m. and Challengers takes on Baron Drive from 7:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, Fond St. Jacques took on new comers and a very young side River Roots. Fond St. Jacques won the toss and sent River Roots into bat. They scored an impressive 48 runs in the power play for the lost of one wicket, but loss wickets at crucial intervals and eventually reached157 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs Captain Curlinus Mitchell top scored with 50, while Julian Sylvester chipped in with a well played 24.

Bowling for Fond St. Jacques Williamson Denis bagged 2 for 17 and Sadick Nestor 2 for 29.

Fond St. Jacques lost an early wicket, but a 41 run partnership between Sadick Nestor and Mc Laud Leriche took them above the required run rate. At the end of the power play them were already at 56 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

Needing 102 runs from 14 overs, things looked promising from here on but some tight bowling by Jeffrey Clement shockingly destroyed the run rate for Fond St. Jacques.

Despite the 51 run partnership between captain Denny Desir and Francis Williams Fond St. Jacques were not able to get above the run rate. In the end their efforts were halted to 145 for 7. Nestor top scored with 35, Denny Desir 33, Francis Williams 24 not out and Mc Laud Leriche 23.

Bowling for River Roots Zack Anthony picked up 3 for 15, JacquainMesmain 2 for 26.

River roots won by 12 runs, while Zack Anthony was named man of the match.
