Digicel Helps Bridge Cultural Gap

IN an effort to promote, preserve and celebrate St. Lucia’s cultural heritage, Digicel is supporting a major local theatre company as it endeavours to bridge the cultural gap on the island.

Kiddi Crew Theatre Company will be hosting a series of innovative cultural events, all based on the cultural landscape of St. Lucia. The first event appropriately dubbed ‘A Night of Fun and Imrpov’, is slated for tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at the Golden Palm Events & Conference Centre in Rodney Heights.

The event is aimed at raising funds for the 2015 production of ‘The Legend of Tom Fool’, a play by Roderick Walcott with music by Charles Cadet. In recognizing that there are generations who may not be aware of the great work of the cultural icon, Kiddi Crew Theatre Company has embarked on a mission to raise the awareness and bring back to stage the work of the deceased twin of the Derek Walcott, for the next five years.

“A Night of Fun and Improv” as the name suggests will be filled with comedy, music and an excerpt from the upcoming production of ‘The Legend of Tom Fool’ which is scheduled for the month of May. In addition to being a fun filled evening, Sunday night also promises lots of fantastic prizes for attendees.

Kiddi Crew creator, Mrs. June Frederick says,’ Kiddi Crew is all about fostering children’s development, for kids between the ages of 8-17 years. We achieve this through informal educational activities and by providing an environment which develops skills while simultaneously promoting fun and entertainment. For 2015 however, we have decided to venture into the development of theatre and production in the youth as we recognized how limited such opportunities are in this day.’

Digicel’s Marketing and Communications Executive, Louise Victor said ‘Digicel was heavily committed to youth and cultural development in St. Lucia and given that Kiddi Crew’s programme is focused on both areas it may only fitting that Digicel came onboard and be part of “this extraordinary movement.”
