1st National Bank of St. Lucia Goes Swimming

At a handover cheque ceremony at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Center, 1st National Bank of St. Lucia on Wednesday 26th September 2007 agreed to become a major player in local swimming in St. Lucia as they were the proud sponsors of $3,500.00 to the St. Lucia Amateur Swimming Association to host the 2007 Secondary Schools Swim Meet scheduled for Friday 19th October 2007.
In addressing the audience, Project and Services Manager Robert Fevriere said, “1st National Bank of St. Lucia is proud to be associated with sports within the schools and swimming is no exception. The opportunity to sponsor was the next natural step especially because the growth and success that St. Lucia has achieved in swimming over the years are tremendous.”
Fevriere expressed his satisfaction that 1st National Bank was involved in the staging of the competition, and said that he was looking forward to an exciting day of competition come Friday 19th October.

The secondary school competition has not been staged for the last couple of years, but SLASA has been anxious to re-introduce the event as a way of encouraging older students to continue to participate in swimming as a competitive sport.
SLASA President, Dr. Marcus Day said, “It has been a tradition since inception to hold a primary and secondary school swim meet annually. While the primary school swim meet has continued without interruption, it has not been possible for the past two years to stage the secondary school meet partially due to scheduling difficulties and funding constraints.”
Day further went on to say, “With SLASA’s new sponsor, 1st National Bank of St. Lucia, and a new schedule that no longer conflicts with CXC or other exams, SLASA is excited to re-introduce the meet and re-brand it the Annual 1st National Bank of St.Lucia Secondary Swim Meet.”
Meanwhile, SLASA would like to remind all secondary schools on the island to send a team of up to 30 swimmers to participate in the championships. Details are being sent to all of the schools, and are also available at the Aquatic Centre. Participants are asked to register and submit completed entry forms by Monday 15th October.
