Dennis Lukens calls 53 for Olympic Training

National Under 23 football coach Dennis Lukens will commence his first order of business in St. Lucia with the National Under 23 Football team for the 2008 Olympic qualifying series beginning in early October of 2007.
Lukens, who last month was appointed coach of the Under 23 squad by the St. Lucia National Football Association, last week selected a 53 man squad to undergo training and possible final selection for the U-23 National Team. Training will commence on Wednesday 4th July, 2007 at two venues.
The proposed training venues are Sir Arthur Lewis Community College Ground for players residing in the north, from Dennery, Canaries, Anse La Raye and Northward to Gros Islet and its environs; the George Odlum Stadium for players from the Southwest, Eastern Region and the South which includes Soufriere, Micoud, Vieux-Fort, Laborie, Choiseul and environs.
Meanwhile, players in the north are asked to report to the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College Grounds on Wednesday 4th July, at 4:45 pm and those from the South should report to the George Odlum National Stadium on Thursday July 5th at 4:45 pm.
The 53 man squad includes several prominent players who represented their community clubs at the 5th Annual Blackheart Tournament which Dennery won. Lukens in an earlier interview said he would be looking to capitalize on the fact that several of the players who are Under 23 have senior experience under their belts.
Coach Lukens has also made it clear he would seek to request the services of every St. Lucian player that’s eligible and playing professionally at a high level will be considered once they show the interest. Lukens further noted the importance of each and every player being carefully looked at to ensure that St. Lucia gets the best possible team on show.
