Second “Start
Up” Swim Meet Successful

To
kick off what appears to be another hectic year
for local swimmers on the island, the St. Lucia
Amateur Swimming Association recently hosted
its second annual “Start-Up” event
for 2012. The weekend event was another in a
series of developmental swim meets with a difference
that attracted well over 120 participants at
the Rodney Height Aquatic Centre.
According to SLASA General Secretary Joyce Huxley,
the focus was firmly on the younger, developing
swimmers, as all events were restricted to swimmers
in the 6 and under, 7 - 8, 9 - 10 and 11-12
year age groups only.
Huxley further went on to say, the older swimmers
were very much a part of the process, as many
of them provided invaluable assistance by acting
as timers or taking on the roles of other officials.
Swimmers from six of the island’s swim
clubs participated in the event, namely - Cobra,
Lightening Aquatics, Racers, Sea Jays, Sharks
and Southern Flying Fish respectively. |
