Volleyball: Veterans’ Time The Indoor Practice Facility that is adjacent to the National Tennis Centre in Beseaujour will come alive with some fiery spikes and hard hitting volleyball action from tomorrow Friday 27th through to Sunday 29th January 2012 as over 45 past national volleyball players representing three local clubs and one visiting team from St.Kitts and Nevis will showcase their talent.
Dubbed ‘Veterans Volleyball’ the tournament is a first of its kind in St.Lucia and is in collaboration with the St. Lucia Volleyball Association, according to the organizers the tournament will be played in accordance with the FIVB official rules of the Game.
The four teams in the tournament will do battle with each other in a round robin format, St.Lucia’s Ciceron Seagulls, Dig Set Point Volleyball Club, Le Club Volleyball and a representative team from the twin Island of St. Kitts and Nevis will be firing from all cylinders.
In what is expected to be sheer entertainment, the three evenings of competition will showcase a number of former national volleyballers from St. Lucia and St. Kitts and Nevis. At the look of things tough competition is expected from the Kittitian team, especially as most of their players are still active members of that country’s national team in both versions of the game, hard court and beach volleyball. Leading the Kittsians challenge for the next three days will be the versatile Brenda Allen.
With just 24 hours away, the tournament promises to be an exciting showpiece. Volleyball enthusiasts coming to lend their support can rest assured that they will see some very competitive games, especially with the resurgence of the traditional Ciceron Seagulls / Le Club and a breakaway faction of Jetsetters now Dig Set Point with the likes of Cecilla Louis, Junia Emmanuel –Belizaire, Ema Gene Issac, Althea Emmanuel and Antoinette Desrivieres.
For public interest, only players thirty-five years and over will be on centre court.
The showpiece will commence with an eye catching opening ceremony at 6:00pm, the national anthem, prayers and address from the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports and SLVA in that order.
The first serve of the tournament will be at 7:00pm sharp. That’s when Ciceron Seagulls take on Dig Set Point and Le Club play the tournament favourites St.Kitts and Nevis at 8:00pm.
