St. Lucia Tennis Association Votes in New Executive

On Monday, January 23, 2012, the newly incorporated St. Lucia Tennis Association Inc. (A non-profit company) held its first annual meeting at the National Tennis Centre at Beausejour, Gros Islet. The meeting was called to order with an encouraging turnout of members of the standing executive board, led by the President; Mr. Stephen McNamara delivered their respective reports.
Highlights included the acceptance of the new association bylaws and the presentation of the financial report. Ensuing discussion focused generally on the need for a concentrated effort on the promotion of tennis in order to maximize and sustain the potential of the new National Tennis Centre and to expose more of our youth and adults to all of the benefits that a structured tennis programme has to offer; the most significant of all being the opportunity for talented and committed young tennis players to obtain educational scholarships at overseas academic institutions.

The main event of the meeting was, of course, the election of the board of directors. Of particular note was an increase in the number of directors to reflect the operational requirements of the newly incorporated Association. The elections proceeded smoothly after which the President emphasized the need for the board members to operate the non-profit company in strict accordance with the Companies Act and the guidelines laid down by the Attorney General’s office.
