Mabouya Valley ODI’s Bowls Off This Weekend

The Mabouya Valley Youth and Sports Council raised the curtains on its 2012 Cricket Season with a Cricket Rama last weekend to much fanfare and excitement. In front of what can best be described as a huge and partisan crowd that turned out at the La Ressource Playing Field.
The weekend Rama was played using a twenty ball format which generated the usual interest and following which has become synonymous with Mabouya Valley Sports.
The participating Clubs in this year’s tournament came out in full force firing on all cylinders, all seeking to win the first silverware on offer by the MVYASC to begin early bragging rights. Given the nature of that format used, cricket enthusiast were regularly entertained as they saw stumps being uprooted and some smart catches being pouched Needless to say, countless balls cleared the ropes whilst others were sent crashing through the various boundaries.

To bring the curtains down, the final was contested by arch rivals Rovers United and Young Generation with the latter setting Rovers a victory target of 24 runs after some very tight bowling by the Rovers team. With Rovers Captain, Murgaran Joseph and Johnson Charles at the top of the order, those runs never seemed enough. Joseph who had been in good nick throughout carried his team to victory, out-batting Charles-as he had done all day.
Meanwhile, Monday evening saw the draw for the ODI tournament at the Council’s office; ten teams are in two groups of five. Group A - comprises Survivals, Monarch, Veterans, La Perle Pumas, and neighbours Young Generation and Togetherness Youth who the current minister of Sports and Youth Development is a part of, whilst Group B - consits of Chesters, R.Y.O., Mabouya Valley Under – 19, Aux Lyon United and Rovers United.
The Mabouya Valley Youth and Sports Council 50 Over Tournament commences this weekend with games scheduled for Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th February at the La Ressource Playing Field. All matches in the tournament will bowl off at 10:00am.
