2012 Caribbean
T20 Statistics
By Roland Cox

At
the conclusion of the 2012 Caribbean Twenty20
Cricket Tournament at the Kensington Oval in
Bridgetown, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago
retained their title as Champions, with Jamaica
as Runners-up.
Windward Islands’ Johnson Charles recorded
The Most Runs. In six innings, he amassed 207
runs with a highest score of 65 against Guyana
during the preliminary stage at Kensington Oval
in Barbados. He complemented that score with
61 not out against Canada at Sir Vivian Richards
Cricket Stadium in Antigua, 32 against Trinidad
& Tobago in Antigua, 29 against Jamaica
in Barbados, and 20 against Leeward Islands
in Barbados. He failed to score against Barbados
in the Third Place Play-off and finished with
an average of 41.40 per innings, along with
a Strike Rate of 123.95.
Occupying second position in the aggregate of
runs was Jamaica’s Nkruma Bonner with
172 runs at an average of 34.40. Barbados’
Dwayne Smith followed on 165 with an average
of 33.00. Kieron Pollard (Trinidad & Tobago)
was next on 153 with the top average of 153.00
and the top Strike Rate of 218.57, followed
by Lendl Simmons (Trinidad & Tobago) with
152 with an average of 25.33.
Left-arm Medium-pacer, Krishmar Santokie of
Jamaica ended with The Most Wickets in the tournament.
In six matches, he bowled 23.4 overs, one maiden,
and captured 14 wickets for 145 runs at 10.36
per wicket to go with an Economy Rate of 6.13
and a Strike Rate of 10.14. The only bowler
to register more than one Four-Wicket Haul,
Santokie, had his best innings figures of 4
for 13 against Netherlands during the latter
stages of the preliminaries in Barbados, following
4 for 17 against Combined Campuses & Colleges
during the early stages of the tournament in
Antigua. Santokie was also the only bowler to
register a Hat-Trick in the Tournament. He performed
this feat during his best figures against Netherlands.
He dismissed Eric Szwarczynski with the final
ball of his third over, then he shattered the
stumps of Mudassar Bukhari and Timm van der
Gugten with the first two deliveries of his
next over.
Following Santokie in the category of Most Wickets
Taken were Shane Shillingford (Windward Islands),
Tino Best (Barbados), Nikita Miller (Jamaica)
and Dwayne Bravo with 10 wickets each. The Most
Overs Bowled in the tournament were 24 by both
Garey Mathurin and Shane Shillingford of the
Windward Islands, while Ashley Nurse of Barbados
registered The Most Maidens – 3. Delorn
Johnson, Windward Islands left-arm fast bowler,
established The Best Bowling Figures In an Innings
with the amazing figures of 4-2-5-5 against
Barbados in the Third-Play Play-off at Kensington
oval.
Other highlights of the tournament included
The Highest Innings Total – 211 for 3
off 20 overs by Trinidad & Tobago against
Leeward Islands during the third day of the
tournament at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket
Stadium in Antigua, while The Lowest Innings
Total was recorded by Leeward Islands who were
dismissed for 44 in 12.5 overs by Trinidad &
Tobago. The Highest Match Aggregate was 294
runs recorded in Barbados during the preliminaries
when Netherlands (160 for 3 off 20 overs) defeated
Combined Campuses & Colleges (134 for 7
off 20 overs) by seven wickets.
The tournament produced twelve (12) Half-Centuries
with The Most Half-Centuries – 2, registered
by Johnson Charles. The Most Balls Received
by a Batsman were 179 by Nkruma Bonner, while
The Highest Individual Score of 86 was made
by Dwayne Smith against Jamaica. The Most Sixes
Hit by a Batsman were 16 by Kieron Pollard,
while Johnson Charles led the way with The Most
Fours – 20. The Batsman with The Most
Not Out was Kieron Pollard, who was dismissed
only once out of five innings. He ended the
tournament with an average of 153.00, putting
together 153 runs with scores of 6 (3 balls)
against Windward Islands, 56 not out (15 balls)
against Leeward Islands, 21 not out (16 balls)
against Guyana, did not bat against Canada,
31 not out (23 balls) against Barbados in the
2nd Semi-Final, and 39 not out (13 balls) in
the Grand Final against Jamaica. The Highest
Partnership for Any Wicket was 111 and that
was established by openers, Lendl Simmons and
Adrian Barath for Trinidad & Tobago against
Leeward Islands at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket
Stadium in Antigua.
Dwayne Bravo, who captured the Man-of-the-Match
Award on two occasions, stood above the rest
in the All-Rounders Category. He scored 121
runs (including scores of 51 and 49) from five
innings at an average of 30.25, and captured
ten (10) wickets at 12.20 apiece, with his best
bowling figures being 3 for 20 against Canada.
Kieron Pollard occupied the top spot for The

The Most Dramatic Start &
Finish of a Team’s Innings occurred
at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in
Antigua when Leeward Islands suffered one
of their most disastrous batting collapses
in any form of cricket as they disintegrated
against Trinidad & Tobago’s bowlers
to lose by a whopping 167 runs. Chasing a
mammoth 212 to win, Leeward Islands lost their
first five wickets for 10 runs after only
5.2 overs.
The wickets fell like this: 1-0 (Richards,
0.2 overs), 2-4 (Liburd, 2.2 overs), 3-4 (Powell,
2.3 overs), 4-8 (Thomas, 3.2 overs), 5-10
(Hamilton, 5.2 overs). A 27-run 6th wicket
stand halted the debacle for a short period
before the next five wickets fell for just
7 runs in this fashion: 6-37 (Athanaze, 11.1
overs), 7-37 (Tonge, 11.2 overs), 8-41 (Joseph,
11.4 overs), 9-42 (Hughes, 11.6 overs), 10-44
(Martin, 12.5 overs). During Trinidad &
Tobago’s innings, Kieron Pollard clobbered
five sixes in Anthony Martin’s final
over to leave the Leeward Islands’ captain
tagged with the title as the Bowler With Most
Runs Conceded in an Innings. Martin ended
with humiliating figures of 4-0-70-0. During
the Leeward Islands’ reply, Sunil Narine
sliced through the lower order, finishing
with the impressive bowling figures of 2-0-9-4,
- all four wickets taken in his second over.
Netherlands’ innings also ended in dramatic
fashion against Jamaica at Kensington Oval
in Barbados. Batting first, they spiraled
from 110 for 4 to 116 all out in just 12 balls,
the last six wickets falling for just six
runs.
Barbados, one of the pre-tournament favourites,
also had their fair share of an innings’
disintegration. They staggered sensationally
when batting first against Windward Islands
in the Third Place Play-off. Their first wicket
fell with the total on 4; the next two wickets
fell on the same total; the 4th wicket fell
with the total on 7 after 3.4 overs. Barbados,
who lost the match by seven wickets, recovered
to crawl to 101 all out from their allotted
20 overs. In that match, Barbados recorded
The Lowest Power-Play Total – scoring
just 8 runs from the first six overs.
Guyana was the only Team to have played unchanged
(same eleven) throughout the tournament.
128 players from ten (10) teams (Barbados,
Canada, Combined Campuses & Colleges,
Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Netherlands,
Sussex, Trinidad & Tobago, and Windward
Islands) participated in the tournament, which
was hosted by Antigua and Barbados. The Antigua
leg of the tournament ran from January 9-14
at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium,
North Sound, while the Barbados leg took place
from January 17-22 at the Kensington Oval
in Bridgetown.
The teams were divided into two groups (Group
A and Group B) of five. Group A – Trinidad
and Tobago, Windward Islands, Guyana, Leeward
Islands and Canada. Group B – Jamaica,
Barbados, Netherlands, Sussex, Combined Campuses
and Colleges.
During the Preliminary stage, teams played
each other once in their group. At the end
of that stage, the top two teams from each
group (Trinidad & Tobago and Windward
Islands from Group A, and Barbados and Jamaica
from Group B) moved on to the Semi-Final stage.
Trinidad & Tobago qualified for the Grand
Final by virtue of their five-wicket victory
over Barbados, while Jamaica progressed with
a similar victory margin over Windward Islands.
The two losing Semi-Finalists met in the Third
Place Play-off with Windward Islands defeating
Barbados.
Kieron Pollard was voted “PLAYER OF
THE TOURNAMENT”.
